Mountaineer

about

Three years have passed since Arbirk released their debut album 'Disguises', which they are now following up with a series of singles that will make the way for the next album, which will be out in 2021. The melodic lo-fi ensemble is now ready with the next single in the series, 'Mountaineer', which follows up on 'Hold My Hand' from July. The song is once again produced by Simon Ask (Katinka) and also has vocal assistance by Marie Hageltorn Christiansen from the same band.

Since their debut in 2017, Arbirk has grown from being Rasmus' solo project to being a band, where his brother Henrik and regular sparring partner Daniel Buchwald now both have become full members. This is expressed in the arrangement of the new single, where also the band's producer has offered new ideas to the mix. This time around the band tries everything in the studio and does not say no to new ideas and sounds, whereas the debut was more strict. It is also rumored that Arbirk this time around has been inspired by playful American Indiebands such as Death Cab for Cutie, Grandaddy and The Antlers, but the Danish band has still retained its own flair for the melody which is served with both great conviction, authority and personality.

‘Mountaineer’ is written with inspiration from Brokeback Mountain. It is about forbidden love and longing for a place in freedom to love and to be loved. At the same time acknowledging that it is not an easy form of love. The song is built around: the verses more practical understanding of love which is partly dissolved into a kind of dreamlike grandiose and longing chorus that marks a utopia where passion and sexuality are given free rein. Between verse and chorus is the realization of the society that surrounds the main characters of the song.

lyrics

Lead me away from this broken trail of life
To mountain tops and open cuts of time
We’ll disappear through joyous fear of growing older
To see the world go under

So just say the word and I’ll break the curse of us
Because the bond we share will save our trust in blood
And I don’t give a shit about what others think of our longing hearts revolt To me you’re all I’m here for

But there’s no place for our love
Disgrace and pain for our love

It could be so simple
My heart is so simple out here

I’m your mountaineer
In a world that’s upside down
This world is upside down
A world that’s upside down
The world is upside down
