Hold My Hand

about

Three years have passed since we last heard from the melodious lo-fi ensemble Arbirk. Now they are ready to follow-up on their debut album ‘Disguises’ from 2017 with new music. The first single is ‘Hold My Hand’ and it is out July 24. The song is produced by Simon Ask Ladekarl from the Danish band Katinka and is also featuring Marie Christiansen from the same band on backing vocals.

Since the debut Arbirk has gone from being a solo project to being a band which the new song showcases ever so elegantly in the versatile instrumentation that features a toy piano, flügelhorn and alt-sax, reminiscing American indie artists Death Cab For Cutie, Sparklehorse and Grandaddy. Arbirk endures the comparison with these big foreign names as the Danish band with authority and a personal expression have the same flair for a catchy tune served in a trembling arrangement.

'Hold My Hand’ has a strong personal and gripping story which the singer and songwriter Rasmus Arbirk elaborates: »The song is written based on my work at the Red Cross Youth volunteer café at the National Hospital. It is about losing someone you love, sitting next to them on the hospital bed and not being able to offer other ways of support than holding their hand when it really hurts. The song's title and chant in the chorus gets an extra layer of pathos. The more times it is sung it becomes clearer that it is not only as comfort to the one who is dying, but also to the one who has to live on. The time we live in taken into account, the "dangerous symbol" of contact and in empathy with those who have lost without being able to say a proper goodbye, without being able to give or receive comfort.«

Hold My Hand
written by Rasmus Arbirk Larsen

You’re here in every song
With your homemade L.C. t-shirt on
I felt your smile in the concert hall
Hope you’re proud because this is all for you

On your clean white pillow sheet
Tied to tubes filled with morphine
But is there more you’d like to eat
More than shitty food from vending machines
Just hold my hand

Just hold my hand

Holding on past twenty feet
With shaking legs of pure ivory
And you’re still my dancing queen
Shining bright for all the world to see
But it’s night and time to sleep
Fill your head with fond memories
Forget all that’s troubling
You’ll wake up far from all this pain

Just hold my hand
Just hold my hand
Just hold my hand
Just hold my hand
Just hold my hand
